Eversheds lures Clifford Chance Senior Tax Associate with partnership
Written by chris on February 20, 2008 – 9:52 am -Eversheds has further bolstered its tax team with the appointment of partner Clive Jones. Clive’s appointment follows the recent hires of senior associate Caspar Fox from Freshfields, head of indirect tax Martin Scammell and tax director Lucy Cox, both from Ernst & Young.
Clive joined Eversheds on 4 February from Clifford Chance where he was a senior associate with particular expertise in real estate and finance. At Eversheds, his primary focus will be on the real estate tax side of the practice including real estate finance and funds. Clive recently advised Evans Randall Investment Management on the £452m acquisition of the Rhodium companies and the 515,000 square foot 5 Canada Square office building in Canary Wharf from RBS.

New Tax Partner at Sidley Austin London Office

Stonehage hires former Head of Private Client at Macfarlanes

The appointment follows Rhodes’ retirement from Macfarlanes. Rhodes spent 40 years at Macfarlanes, rising through the ranks to become head of private client, a role he held from 2000 to 2005. Last year he received a lifetime achievement award from the Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners (STEP).
The Stonehage Group is an international wealth management group advising high net worth families. They have offices in Switzerland, United Kingdom, Jersey, Israel, South Africa, the United States and Australia.

Fenwick & West Represents Eaton as Special Tax Counsel in $2.23B Moeller Acquisition
Written by chris on February 9, 2008 – 4:35 am -Fenwick & West LLP represented Eaton Corporation (NYSE: ETN) as special tax counsel in its acquisition of Germany-based The Moeller Group, a supplier of components for commercial and residential building applications. The agreed purchase price is EUR 1.55 billion, or $2.23 billion USD. The transaction, expected to close in the first quarter of 2008, is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.
The Fenwick & West tax team included partners Jim Fuller and Bart Bassett; and associates Neal Gordon, Victor Ng, Catherine Curtiss, Larissa Neumann, Will Skinner and Amanda Dranginis.

Squire Sanders strengthen Polish tax team with smash & grab raid on Gide
